Anthony M. Santomero is the Richard K. Mellon Professor Emeritus of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a Director of Citigroup and Citibank NA, and a Board member on the Columbia Funds mutual fund complex, the fund family affiliated with the Bank of America; Renaissance Reinsurance Company Ltd, and the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company.
From July 2006 to January 2008, he was a full time Senior Advisor in McKinsey & Company’s New York Office. In this role, he worked closely with McKinsey clients and partners globally in the Financial Institutions and Risk Management Practices. He continues this relationship today on a more limited basis.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Dr. Santomero was the ninth President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia from July 2000 to April 2006. As a Federal Reserve Bank president, Dr. Santomero has been a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). While at the Fed, he also served as chair of the System’s Committee on Credit and Risk Management, and as a member of the Financial Services Policy Committee, and the Payments System Policy Advisory Committee. In addition he was the vice chair of the Conference of Reserve Bank Presidents.
Before joining the Federal Reserve System, Dr. Santomero was the Richard K. Mellon Professor of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. During his 30-year tenure at Wharton, he held a number of academic and managerial positions, including deputy dean of the school.
Dr. Santomero received an A.B. in economics from Fordham University in 1968 and a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University in 1971. He also holds an honorary doctorate from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden, received in 1992, and an honorary degree from the University of Rome, awarded in 2003.
