Carol A. Leisenring

Carol A. Leisenring is the Co-Director of the Financial Institutions Center, a research center of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Before joining the FIC in 2000, she was Executive Vice President for Strategic Development and Chief Economist at CoreStates Financial Corp in Philadelphia. At CoreStates, she was responsible for asset/liability management, treasury, corporate strategic planning and measurement, mergers and acquisitions, investor relations and economics. When CoreStates merged with First Union Corporation in 1998, she became Executive Vice President of First Union (now Wachovia Bank) and was Co-Chair of the CoreStates-First Union Merger Steering Committee.

From 1985 to 1987, Dr. Leisenring was a senior staff economist at the Council of Economic Advisers. Previously, she held several positions with the U.S. Treasury Department including Deputy to the Undersecretary for Monetary Affairs. Earlier in her career, Dr. Leisenring taught economics at The Pennsylvania State University and was an adjunct professor of economics at American University.

Dr. Leisenring has an M.A. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College, where she now serves on the Board of Trustees.
