What's new at the Center?

The Wharton Financial Institutions Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Francis X. Diebold as Co-Director of the Center and a member of its Industry Advisory Board.

Professor Diebold is WP Carey Professor of Economics and professor of Finance and Statistics at the Wharton School, and Faculty Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Mass. A prolific researcher, he has published extensively and is an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Econometric Society as well as the winner of Sloan, Guggenheim and Humboldt fellowships. Diebold is also active in policy and corporate affairs; he has served on several boards and is consulted regularly by financial firms, central banks, and policy organizations, worldwide. From 1986-1989 he served as an economist under both Paul Volcker and Alan Greenspan at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington DC.

Two New Advisory Board Members

The Wharton Financial Institutions Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Shelton S. Unger and Thomas K. Whitford to its Industry Advisory Board.

Ms. Unger is Principal with Vanguard International Operations which oversees Vanguard’s business development activities in Europe and Latin America. A crew member with The Vanguard Group for over 20 years, Ms. Unger has held many leadership positions within the organization. A 1978 graduate of Vanderbilt University with a BA in psychology. Ms. Unger earned an MBA degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1983.

Mr. Whitford is executive vice president and the chief risk officer of The PNC Financial Services Group, with responsibility for credit policy, market risk management, operational risk, fiduciary risk, internal audit, risk analytics and credit risk review. He received his MBA in Finance from the Wharton School in 1982
and holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts.
