The FIC’s research draws on the expertise of Wharton faculty across all business disciplines. As a result, research projects are frequently cross-disciplinary in approach and scope. The research design is often characterized by field-based techniques such as interviews, questionnaires, and hands-on involvement by researchers. In addition, the research agenda recognizes both the blurring of historic institutional distinctions induced by market forces and regulatory changes, as well as the ongoing globalization of financial institutions and services. Most important, all research evolves from a close interaction with industry participants. Close collaboration with industry leaders, public policymakers and other researchers fosters a research agenda of relevant and timely topics. Ongoing communication with the industry provides the input and feedback needed to deliver usable research results to industry practitioners. It is a research model founded on solid scholarship, but grounded in real-world insights.
